UNDER 12s BOYS

The Under 12s rugby team marks an important phase in a young player’s development, as they begin to play the full 12-a-side game with more complex rules, increased physicality, and a greater focus on tactical awareness. It’s a year where players deepen their understanding of rugby as a team sport, preparing for the transition into the junior game.

Training sessions build on core rugby skills such as tackling, rucking, mauling, passing under pressure, and positional awareness. Players begin to experience more realistic game scenarios, with five-player scrums in a 3-2 formation. Emphasis is placed on safe technique, teamwork at the breakdown, ball retention, defensive organisation, and supporting the ball carrier across open and broken play.

Communication becomes more strategic. Players are encouraged to take more responsibility in calling plays, organising the defensive line, and identifying space. Coaches foster leadership across the team, helping players understand roles within different formations and how to adapt to changing situations on the field.

Safety is still paramount. Contact elements are coached with care, and all training is delivered in a way that prioritises good technique, awareness, and respect for others. Coaches maintain a positive, inclusive environment where players feel supported to push their boundaries while staying safe.

The Under 12s season is full of opportunities to put learning into action through competitive matches, festivals, and club fixtures. Players are challenged to work together, show resilience, and make decisions as a team—all while enjoying the camaraderie, physicality, and excitement that rugby brings. It’s a year of real growth, where fun and development go hand-in-hand.
