UNDER 10s
The Under 10s rugby team represents a major development stage, as players continue to build on their contact skills while learning to play a more structured, dynamic version of the game. At this level, children are introduced to more formal gameplay elements, including rucks, mauls, and set plays, while continuing to prioritise teamwork, communication, and safety.
Training sessions focus on refining tackling technique, improving ball-handling under pressure, and developing a better understanding of defensive and attacking shapes. Players learn how to support the ball carrier, maintain a defensive line, and work as a cohesive unit to advance the ball and protect their own try line.
Team communication becomes more tactical, with players encouraged to call out space, organise defensive efforts, and communicate support options during play. Coaches help players understand the value of leadership on the pitch, clear communication, and decision-making under pressure.
Player safety remains the top priority. Coaches ensure that all contact training is introduced and reinforced using proper technique, gradual progression, and plenty of supervision. Players are regularly reminded of safe play principles, with an emphasis on respect, control, and looking after teammates and opponents alike.
The Under 10s season brings a balance of friendly competition, structured team play, and skill development, preparing players for the faster pace and higher physical demands of older age groups. Most importantly, the focus remains on enjoyment, inclusivity, and building a lifelong love of rugby through teamwork, effort, and fun.

Our union was founded to fight for fairness and justice for working people.
130 years on, we're continuing to fight tirelessly to defend our members in a changing world of work, building a 21st Century Union from the workplace up.
Whether its unscrupulous employers putting profit before the workers who make them, or governments that attack workers' rights and our ability to stand together as a union, GMB doesn't shy away from these challenges.
We have tens of thousands of highly trained staff and activists who understand exactly what rights you have and what employers are allowed to do.
We train our people in employment law, health and safety and how to represent people in disciplinary processes so that whenever there is a problem, someone has your back. Those activists are commonly referred to as ‘Reps’ or ‘workplace organisers’.
GMB is also a campaigning union, using every tool we have industrially and politically to advance our members' interests.
