Ken Baynes

Southend RFC are saddened to announce the passing of Life Member and former Club Chairman, Ken Baynes.

Ken joined the club in 1980 to play alongside his brother Charles, turning down a top-flight opportunity at London Scottish. He remains one of the only people to have played in the 1st XV squad across three separate decades.

On retiring from playing, he coached the youth teams.

Ken was also a prominent figure on the management committee, serving as Treasurer, steering the club through Covid to secure its long-term financial stability.

He was a massive character, hugely loyal and dedicated to the club. Ken will be sorely missed.
