UNDER 9s

The Under 9s rugby season marks an exciting milestone for young players as they are introduced to tackling for the first time. Training sessions focus on teaching the core principles of safe and effective tackling through fun, structured drills. Players learn correct body positioning, how to fall safely, and how to tackle with control, ensuring both their own safety and that of others.

Communication is a key part of their development. Players are encouraged to talk to their teammates during games and training, calling for the ball, offering support, and celebrating success together. Coaches create a supportive and encouraging environment where children feel confident to ask questions, listen carefully, and grow as individuals and as part of a team.

Player safety is always the top priority. Coaches are trained to deliver sessions that build skills progressively, using age-appropriate techniques and equipment. Regular checks are made to ensure players are physically and emotionally ready for contact, and each session includes warm-ups, cool-downs, and rest periods to protect young bodies.

Beyond the training ground, the focus is on preparing players for a season filled with enjoyment, learning, and friendly competition. With regular matches against local clubs, the children develop their rugby skills, build resilience, and most importantly, have fun with friends in a positive and inclusive environment.

Sponsors

The Under 9’s kit and upkeep of equipment is all thanks to our wonderful sponsors:

Our union was founded to fight for fairness and justice for working people.

130 years on, we're continuing to fight tirelessly to defend our members in a changing world of work, building a 21st Century Union from the workplace up.

Whether its unscrupulous employers putting profit before the workers who make them, or governments that attack workers' rights and our ability to stand together as a union, GMB doesn't shy away from these challenges.

We have tens of thousands of highly trained staff and activists who understand exactly what rights you have and what employers are allowed to do.

We train our people in employment law, health and safety and how to represent people in disciplinary processes so that whenever there is a problem, someone has your back. Those activists are commonly referred to as ‘Reps’ or ‘workplace organisers’.

GMB is also a campaigning union, using every tool we have industrially and politically to advance our members' interests.
