Red Roses Crowned World Champions — A Moment That Inspires Southend Rugby

On 27 September 2025, England’s Red Roses wrote history at Twickenham, lifting the Rugby World Cup after a commanding 33–13 victory over Canada. In front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 80,000, the Roses showcased the very best of rugby: power, precision, and passion.

From their dominant pool-stage performances to a flawless knockout run, England played with a blend of grit and flair that set them apart. The final itself was a masterclass — a display of set-piece dominance, relentless defence, and moments of brilliance such as Ellie Kildunne’s dazzling try. With Sadia Kabeya named Player of the Match, the Roses capped an extraordinary campaign in style.

But beyond the silverware, their achievement has left a legacy that stretches far beyond Twickenham’s gates — including right here at Southend Rugby Club.

Inspiration for all ages

The Roses’ journey has sparked fresh energy across our club. Our youngest players now see role models who look like them lifting the biggest prize in world rugby. Girls and boys in the youth teams are copying the Roses’ moves at training, while our women’s and men’s squads are drawing on the same sense of dedication and belief to push themselves harder. The victory is proof that hard work, teamwork, and resilience can take you to the very top.

A pilgrimage to Twickenham

Several of our members made the journey to Twickenham to witness the final live — an experience they’ll never forget. From the buzz of the stadium to the deafening roar of the crowd as England crossed the line, those memories will be told and retold in our clubhouse for years to come. For many, it wasn’t just about watching history being made — it was about sharing it together as part of the Southend family.

Building our own legacy

The Roses have shown what’s possible when talent meets opportunity. Now it’s up to us, at grassroots level, to carry that inspiration forward. We’re already seeing a surge of interest from new players, especially young girls keen to give rugby a try. As a club, we’re committed to providing them with the pathways, coaching, and support they need to thrive.

A moment to celebrate

This World Cup victory isn’t just a triumph for England — it’s a victory for every club, coach, volunteer, and supporter who believes in the power of rugby to change lives. At Southend Rugby Club, we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate the Roses’ success and to channel their inspiration into building the next generation of players.

Congratulations, Red Roses. You’ve inspired a nation — and you’ve inspired Southend.
