Community Group appoint Head of Community at Southend RFC

COMMUNITY Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Ellis as Head of Community at Southend RFC.

Her appointment is an important step in our chapter with the Essex club, which became a Community Partner in March of this year.

Katherine’s previous experience includes being an Area School Development Manager for Buckingham, Hertfordshire, Kent & London.

She has played rugby union for East of England, Tabard, Hertfordshire University and SEEVIC College, as well as making an appearance for Samoa against Fiji while the team’s Sports Therapist between 2016-17

Katherine is quite the athlete, having previously been crowned UK Women’s Athletics champion for the hammer and javelin, three-time Essex County Champion for the shot put and district county champion for the javelin. She was also part of the Chelmsford Women’s team which broke the Guinness World Record for the longest field hockey match with 56 hours, 18 minutes and 45 seconds.

Katherine has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Sports Therapy from the University of Hertfordshire and a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science. She has worked as a Sports Therapist for Arlesey Town FC, Arsenal Ladies, Everton FC, Hitchin RFC, London 7s rugby teams, Rio Basketball Trial Team and Samoa National Rugby Team.

She has also been involved in community work and fundraising for Asthma UK, British Heart Foundation, Dog’s Trust and Mind.

Katherine Ellis, Head of Community at Southend RFC, said: “Becoming part of the Community Group family is an exciting adventure. The opportunity to support the club as well as help the wider community such as local schools and charities through rugby, is one of the many rewarding attributes that drove me to become the Head of Community for Southend RFC.”

Katherine coming in to lead our community department is a really exciting appointment. Using sport as the vehicle, we want to reach out and supply our community with opportunities that they may not have had access to previously. Katherine has some great ideas of her own, I’m looking forward to working with her and seeing her vision positively implemented amongst our community going forward.”
