Press Release
6th May 2008
After a long association with Southend Rugby Football Club Kevin Harman, their Director of Rugby, is moving on to pastures new.
He has been appointed 1st team manager of London Wasps; one of Europe’s leading clubs and the current European Champion’s.
Kevin has been at Southend for many years, both as a player and coach. He has taken the club from London 3 north east league to a successful year in the National 2 where we finished in mid-table. This has been achieved in 7 years, an unprecedented rise up the rugby leagues.
His hard work and support for the club will be remembered for many years and the club wishes him well in his new job. He will remain involved with the club in a Player Development Role and through his two sons who play in the Southend Mini Section.
We are pleased to announce that BEN GREEN has been appointed Director of Rugby with immediate effect. The 31 year old Yorkshireman has been a 1st XV player and Club Captain before retiring from playing last season.
His former clubs include Moortown (Leeds), Leicester Tigers, Rochford Hundred and seven seasons at Southend.
“I am extremely pleased that Ben accepted our offer to become Director of Rugby, he is extremely capable and we expect a smooth transition from Kevin’s departure to the beginning of our training programmes that start from June 1st”.
The club will be looking for a Senior Coach to take charge of the backs division, working with KEVIN SCULLY, Manager, GARY COOKE Forwards Coach and KRIS CHESNEY (Saracens) Forwards Coaching Advisor.

Everything Rugby

Together with hundreds of other clubs around the country we now have a website published on this new web based rugby site.
As well as the website I am now able to post news about the club on their site. I have been doing this during the development stages. It si now up and running, follow the link to keep abreast of rugby news.
Southend Radio

The club has come to an arrangement with the new Southend Radio, based at Adventure Island.
They have agreed to cover our games for the rest of the season and the next and to broadcast a regular weekly round up of the previous and following fixture.
Club officials and players will represent the club in these activities.
Broadcasting on 105.1 FM the station reaches from Colchester to Barking and Kent to Hertfordshire, giving the club a wide range of listeners, and hopefully a bigger supporter base.
Good news for all sponsors, supporters and players.
